Delta Works
Delta Works construction began in 1950 and ended in 1997. The Delta Works is located in Southwest of the Netherlands. Delta Works was made to protect a large area of land from the sea. The entire structure consists of dams, sluices, locks, dykes and storm surge barriers.
There are several different parts that are located in various places in the Netherlands to help reduce the amount of flooding in the estuaries of the rivers Rhine, Meuse and Scheldt. The different parts are all named different names because a lot of them were constructed and completed at different times between 1950 to 1997.
The Delta Works was commissioned after the North Sea Flood of 1953. Delta Works was to help prevent other disasters such as the North Sea Flood to occur again in the future.
